Dry cabinets FAQ's

What is a dry cabinet?
In short, a dry cabinet is a storage device that allows you to protect a wide range of products against humidity / oxidation problems. A desiccant dry cabinet from Totech can maintain an internal environment of <1% RH. Alternatively, Totech offers many models with multiple possible environments, such as humidity levels between 5- 30%, heated or even a cooled environment. Desiccant dry cabinets are also called: desiccators, dry boxes, dehumidifying cabinets, and ultra-low humidity storage cabinets.

What can be stored in a dry cabinet?
Any component classified as an MSD (Moisture sensitive device), particularly devices classified as a level 2-5a. Desiccant dry cabinets can also be used to store PCB's, 3D printing polymers, laboratory materials, chemical or medical material, digital media, mediafilms and a lot of other applications.
Applications
What is desiccant and how does it work?
Desiccant is defined as; “A substance that has a high affinity for water and is used as a drying agent.” It is a generic term for a variety of materials, some names that you may be familiar with include Montmorillonite Clay, Silica Gel, Indicating Silica Gel, Molecular Sieve, Calcium Oxide, Calcium Sulphate, and Zeolite. High quality desiccants have an ability to be recycled or refreshed easily and effectively, bringing them back to full strength. Totech only makes use of the highest quality desiccant material to ensure quick and efficient performance in drying.
How do Totech dessicant dryers function?
Our developed, dynamic high performance drying unit U-5003, achieves air moisture levels of <0.1% RH, even at temperatures of 60 °C. Unlike traditional technology, during cabinet door openings, air moisture levels barely rise above 5% RH and sink within a few minutes again to ≤5% RH. In manufacturing environments, the regeneration behavior of the drying unit adapts itself dynamically to the needs of short opening cycles of the doors and multi-layer loading. Through this, the availability and efficiency are improved considerably in comparison to a fixed timer-based regeneration cycle.
What is Relative Humidity?
Relative Humidity (RH) is presented as a percentage, it’s not a straight measure of how much water is in the air. Warm air is capable of carrying higher levels of moisture than cooler air. The percentage of RH is a percentage of the maximum saturation of the air at the current temperature. So, there will be more water vapour at 60% RH when the temperature is 25 °C than there would be at 15 °C.
What is recovery time?
Recovery time refers to the time required for the cabinet to reduce the RH level back to its set point after the door has been opened and closed. The latest Totech cabinets employ the newly developed U-5003 dry unit which is measurably more powerful than any other technology. This “Dynamic Dry Unit” is closed loop responsive to changes in demand and will regenerate at the frequency required to maintain the set point. Superior stability and energy utilization.
Do Totech cabinets require any maintenance ?
Generally speaking, there is almost to no maintenance needed on our cabinets. Quality wise it is important to calibrate your cabinet's sensor on a yearly bases. We offer an exchange program for swapping sensors yearly to be in-line with your quality certification.

Applications FAQ's

Which Dry Cabinets are used in the Electronics market?
For the electronics market there are several options possible. When you frequently open up your cabinet to take out your MSDs or PCBs, the MSD and HSD series are good cabinets for your application. When material needs to be dried fast, a XSD or XSDB cabinet is more suitable. If you need a cabinet for medium- or long-term storage the SD, SD+ or SDB series is better suited.
Electronics Applications
Which Dry Cabinets are used in the 3D Printing market?
For the storage of 3D Printing Polymers, a Fast Drying Cabinet or Storage Cabinet is best suited. Some examples are the XSD(B), SD(+) or SDB Series Cabinets.
3D Printing Applications
Which Dry Cabinets are used in the Laboratory materials market?
For laboratory materials that are sensitive to moisture, the (long term) storage cabinets of Totech are an ideal solution to keep your laboratory materials safe of moisture. A few examples of well-suited cabinets are: SD, SD+, SDB, ESDA or XSDC Cabinets series.
Laboratory Applications
Which Dry Cabinets are used in the Medical market?
Dry Cabinets that are used in research institutes and medical facilities around the world are drying cabinets with fast recovery time, when frequently opened and potentially also storage cabinets. Take a look at our MSD, HSD, SD, SD+ or SDB series cabinets.
Medical Applications
Which Dry Cabinets are used in the Digital Media & Film market?
For the safe storage of Digital film & Media, the SDB Dry Storage Solution will protect all kinds of digital media and film, safeguarding them from high humidity for best-condition preservation.
